Shooting Script - A2
This is my shooting script made before filming. However, because new shots and scenes were added after feedback and pick ups, this shooting script does not cover the full trailer. It was useful as a framework from which to develop ideas and opportunities as they arose.

AS Editing Main Image - Magazine Cover
The top image was my original picture, I could not use it as the photo was too saturated. Due to the saturation I had to lower the RGB qualitites and add a lighting effect across my model's body. When I had finished editing the image, I presented the new image to a class and feedback showed that the edited version looked much more professional.
Preliminary task School Mag
This my basic layout for my magazine it shows where the images and headings will be. The colours were chosen because they represent the schools main colours. The text boxes are in places where they overlay therefore making it look more like a magazine.
The second image is showing a picture of the school behind the text, this is to show the audience what the magazine is about adds

School Mag
This is the basic background of my school magazine. The background picture of the school is shot an angle making the school look long and imposing. This also draws attention to Jeremy since the roofline of the building meets with his head. This means that the focus will be on Jeremy.
This next image shows the title of the magazine. The title is basic but gets the point across and I chose to use Blackadder ITC and kept the font colour black because the font looked like it was hand written and would stand out against the grey sky. This image shows how I have added in the main story and a caption underneath. The main story is put at an angle to make the text look creepier and to catch the readers eyes more. The font type is Chiller and the colour is red as it is commonly used to make a text look scary but also because red is a very bold colour and will make the reader take a look.
This is my finished magazine cover in all it's glory. I added the black box and text to give the magazine more life. This would stick with the dark colour scheme of the rest of the text but also cover up the cut off part of the image. The black box makes the text stand out more. The text OMFG is a slang used on the internet and will be understood by the student reading the mag. I finally added a smaller title story just to add more life to the magazine.
Mock Contents Page
This is the contents page for my school magazine, I have put certain things like the page number, image and story to help me organise where everything will go on the final piece. The images and text that goes with it are at angles as this fills the page more and therefore makes it seem like there is more there than there actually is but it also makes the contents page look more alive and interesting for the viewer.
Clash of the Titans - Double Page Spread
The double page spread I have chosen to analyse features the film Clash of the Titans. Clash of the Titans is a remake of the classic of 1981 version which shares the same name.
The first page contains the title of the article, an introductory paragraph, the body of the article and several captioned pictures. The second page consists of a small captioned image showing a scene from the film.
The first page is set up fairly conventionally. Part of the title is at the top of the page in a large, gold. I believe they designed the title so that it complimented the grey background and reminded of plaques on statues and other ancient objects. The title definitely stands out combined with the other half which is on the page. All together the title says “Gods and Monsters”. The monsters part is on the other page which further separates the two words from each other and symbolises some of the conflict in the film.
The first page also uses an image of Sam Worthington (playing Perseus) as a background picture, he is standing there in full armour and standing there looking powerful and gives us the feeling he has just conquered a monster. Also the fact that the “Gods” line is on the page he is on and the “monsters” line is on the other lives us the feeling that he is with the Gods or at least fighting against the monsters.
The introductory paragraph is beneath the title and gives the reader a glance into the film and its production. This part is really just trying advertise how good the film is going to by mentioning what films the actors have been in and how the effects will be truly amazing. This section also talks about the story its relation to the original film.
I think this is a great example of what a double page spread should look like. Allowing clear view of all the text and images, setting them up so it is pleasing for the reader to look at.
Q magazine Cover Analysis
Q has used a background style of red and white in this contents page. It has a simple and clear title with the issue number beside it. They have a big bold title and the masthead from the front cover it is easily found and identified. Down the left hand side the features and articles are laid out very clearly with sub-headings and separating red lines.
The main article has been given a medium sized image and is above the other features. It has also been printed in red font rather than black to make it stand out from the rest. It has a larger section for reviews and includes the line “The World’s Biggest and Best Music Guide” trying to show the reader how useful what they say is. Overall this contents page is very clear and supplies the reader with easy access to the contents of the magazine.

NME Contents Page -Analysis
NME have used a very effective black and white colour scheme for their contents page. With a big bold title and the masthead from the front cover it is easily found. Most of the page is dominated by a piece of writing written by either an editor of the magazine or someone who would normally write articles after being out there and experiencing it. This contents page is dominated by the 2008’s BBC Electric Proms which saw Oasis playing with the Crouch End Choir in London and the highlight of the event was about the Africa Exprez teaming up with other singers. The article has been places on top of a white background which makes the other text stand out well against it. Above the article is the Masthead which is placed just above the pictures not only making you see the name NME but also drawing your eyes straight into the main article mentioned above. The features and regulars have been places in the same place down the right hand side and are separated by big bold sub-heading which makes it very clear to spot each one. The page numbers have been printed in red to stand out from almost everything else on the page. An advert has been used at the bottom right for subscriptions to this magazine. As nearly everyone who buys the magazine will look at this page it is an ideal place to advertise.
Empire Magazine Cover Analysis
This cover is taken from the Empire magazine and is focusing on the Dark Knight film. The use of the word ‘PLUS’ shows that the film situated on the front of the poster is the main focus and anything else is just ‘extra’. The head of the joker covers the ‘P’ in empire, which gives the sense that it is overpowering the magazine itself because the film is so big and successful. The picture of the film is the main aspect of the cover. The other features are written over the picture, as opposed to the picture being a small feature on the magazine. The date and the price of the magazine is very small and doesn’t stand out. This could be as it may not attract the readers as much, and the film may also be taking over the whole page and divert their attention to that instead. The red title of the magazine enhances the darkness and sense of the film, giving clues or reinforcing the genre and the general narrative. The writing shows that the film is/will be relatively eerie. The font used looks handwritten and looks as if it has been carved. The white font used for the ‘extra’ information shows a sense of innocence for those topics, but more so enhances the horror genre of The Dark Night. These words show that the film is that successful and gives the impression that this is a rare opportunity to read this anywhere else so as it promotes the magazine! The bright colours make the magazine stand out and the different shapes around the letters shows that it is unique. The website is fairly small underneath the title of the magazine, which shows where you can find out more about what is in the magazine. The colour of his socks are shown, which, with the different colours, they relate to the word ‘Joker'; his title in the film. The barcode is a typical convention of a magazine.
Q magazine Cover Analysis
Q have kept the basic style of the white and red front cover. The main image being Metallica is just them themselves, as they are such a big, famous band this is all that needed to sell the band. The masthead is positioned in the left third at the top to be seen much easier than other magazines on a magazine rack. The lead article is positioned right in the middle at the waist of Metallica, drawing your eyes away from the band but still giving them focus through the text. There are only 3 cover lines yet they all stand out against the white background. The one that stands out the most for me is at the bottom. It draws attention to itself and readers who like Metallica may buy this magazine as the 20 loudest albums will most probably be the same genre of music as Metallica. There is a box at the bottom right and shows the large amount of albums reviewed to show how big this magazine is and shows its dominance. Cover lines Flash Lead Article Left Third Masthead Main Image
APB double page analysis
With this double page spread you notice that there is 3 main sections; a large action image, a small section telling the viewers he features and marketing highlights of APB and the release date and a large banner giving the readers a quick snippet of information about the game in general.
Looking at the first page you notice that the two people have a background colour (blue and red) showing which team they are on and are this is also extended by having they at opposite angles. There are only 5 parts to the features section just telling us basic information about the game and the company. The section below also talks about the ways they are advertising by having beta openings and other marketing events. The double page spread also has a small image of the game cover and the release date next to it. I think the set up used works well because if you have just read an entire article full of non-important information you will lose interest but the way this is set up you get what you want in short. The fonts work well to separate out the different bits of text. They used two types of fonts one for the bold masthead, but they use a much clearer font for the small text to allow easier reading. The masthead is in a bold font as I have said before but is also highlighted by a yellow banner this makes the text stand out and also looks like graffiti which relates well with the type of game this is.
The main colours used are blue, red, white, black and yellow. These are used in a perfect balance allowing the reader not to be bombarded by the colours but make the double page spread attractive to the eyes. They only used the red and blue to highlight the two people in the main image to symbolise the conflict between the two people, this is emphasised by the way the two colours are splashing into each other.
The black is mainly used as the main font colour and is used for the main article text as well as the main masthead font. Black is also used to highlight the yellow font when it is used to give the synopsis of the article below.
I think this is a good double page spread because of the way the colours are used together to compliment each other, the article looks exciting with the way the image is placed and makes the whole thin easy to look at.

Trailer Movie Night - A2
After making our trailers we invited a test panel of 50 people to view them. Our testing panel was made up of 25 males and females between the ages of 16 and 25, and this range meant we could get honest feedback and constructive criticism from our target audiences.
Promotion
To promote our event we designed a poster which included all four of our posters. This was a efficient way of attracting people to take a ticket and turn up to our event. Having all four of our posters on it meant that if someone was interested in one poster, they saw all the trailers on offer, so we all got feedback.
Another method we used to attract people was to offer free refreshments. This was not only an incentive but a thanks for to the people who came to our presentation as we wanted them to give us their views about the trailers.
Feedback
After showing both the trailers, the original and then the extended, my feedback showed the audience preferred the extended version. They also criticised the repetitive music and the fact that there was little change in pitch and tempo when the action scenes were taking place.

Location
All my shots were taken in Heacham. The first sequence was taken in the church grounds and just outside them. This area was chosen to emphasise the theme of death. The second sequence of shots was taken inside one of the Heacham gun emplacements, just off Heacham beach. The last sequence of shots was taken on the crossroads outside my house. The final shot was taken just behind Heacham beach, next to a river for safety reasons as my actor was using fire in this shot.
I had previously planned to use all these settings for my trailer and have continued with that plan.

Scott Pilgrim Vs the World
I have loved comics and video games since I was very young, mainly the X-Men comics and the old school Nintendo and Sega games such as Mario, Legend of Zelda and Sonic the Hedgehog. As a young child these fantastical worlds can’t help but draw you in and capture your imagination. The worlds these characters live in always draw you in and the art style in comics and games are still just as iconic now as they were 20 years ago. Nowadays many people have been hoping for a movie that captures the art style and world of these genres.
Unfortunately some film developers also thought that this world of super-humans and aliens would be a great place set a movie. They spewed out terrible movies such as Superman Returns, Batman and Robin, The Mario Brothers, and many more terrible movies. Only a few have managed to capture that essence such as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. These two films grasp what Batman is and have made to great adaptations of the comic. There have been a few other mediocre films based on comics (Spiderman films) but they have all been made more serious and never got the over-the-topness of the comics.
That was until I saw the trailer of Scott Pilgrim Vs the World near the end of March and just from watching it I knew the film was going to be a great film. The trailer showed the world was similar to how a comic shows it, so when the phone rang little words saying ring would be floating above it and also how some of the fights were played out with references to other comics and video games. Scott Pilgrim Vs the World even had the composer of the Legend of Zelda music make a remix exclusively for the film. Though I was a little doubted by it’s statement of being people’s new favourite film and thought that it might just be hyped up to much.
The story line is deceptively simple; Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) falls for Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and must defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her. Along the way, Scott must also deal with his own ex, Knives Chau and get his band, Sex Bob-Omb, to the top of the Battle of the Bands in order to win a record contract from the elusive G-Man.
To tell his story, Edgar Wright the director of the movie uses just about every tool in the modern filmmakers' repertoire to bring Bryan Lee O'Malley’s comic to the screen. The origins of Ramona's exes are told in comics form, while a narrator occasionally reveals information to the audience and to add to the fights they begin with a fighting game style "VS" tag appearing on screen. Though mostly shot on complete sets or practical locations, the film is constantly augmented by special effects designed to recall comic book design including motion lines and lettered sound effects. The latter is particularly exciting and fun to watch, as the film has a modern sound that mixes with added visual cues, the visually augmented SMACKs and CRASHes enhancing the goings on, transporting the fights to a place few other films can go.
So now you expect me to tell you everything is perfect good work Edgar Wright. Unfortunately the film was not that big a hit in the box office only reaching fifth place in it’s first week and dropped down to the tenth place by the second. The major problem with this film is the script and as I said earlier the story line is very simple and repetitive. This causes the fight to become less exciting and more tedious. The story just can’t keep you captured and is only boosted by it’s graphic design.
A teenage audience is clearly what this film is looking for and it’s a shame not as many people as was first thought actually went to see this movie. Overall I say the film is perfect for all teenagers especially those who like comedies and comics. I can’t say it’s the best film in the world, and it’s definitely not for those who want a deep story. However it is a film where the phrase "there has never been a film like it" can be gleefully and accurately be applied as it is in the case of Universal Studios' Scott Pilgrim Vs the World

BT Digital Music Award Winners
On 30 September, the 2010 BT Digital Music Awards, now in its tenth year, were held at the Camden Roundhouse.
The BT Digital Music Awards (DMA) started in the UK in 2001 and are held annually. Music industry professionals can nominate artists, venues and hardware into the Judge's Choice award categories. The rest of the awards are made up of People's Choice Awards, voted for by the public.
This year’s winners included Gorillaz, Robbie Williams, Tinie Tempah and Professor Green. Gorillaz won two awards – Best Artist Promotion for their ‘Escape to Plastic Beach’ games and Artist of the Year. Robbie Williams was Best Male Artist, Tinie Tempah was Best Newcomer and Professor Green won the Breakthrough Artist of the Year award.
Tinie’s new single, ‘Written in the Stars’, was released this week and is currently outselling its rivals in the UK singles chart according the latest Official Chart Update. His much awaited debut album, ‘Disc-Overy’, is out next week. The releases of Tine’s new single and album were set to be revealed after the awards because he will get more publicity for his album and himself when he won. Robbie Williams has done something similar not only is his new album coming out this month but he is using the social networking sites (Twitter) to gain more publicity through making a “Tweet The Lyric game which allows fans to tweet their favourite lyrics from Robbie’s biggest hits and win exclusive Twitter profile badges.”
The Awards themselves will obviously boost back copy sales as well as promote their good reputation and get you ready for the new albums.

Planning - Locations
Intend to use this location for more opening sequence of my trailer. This location at St Mary's Church denotes religion and in the cemetery, death.
I also plan to use locations at South Beach, in one of the gun emplacements. This location is secluded from the village and would be a perfect place for a night time shoot.
